Domestic and International Fare Types

Air Niugini offers different fare types to best suit your travel needs. From our special Economy Promo fares ideal for budget travellers to the Business Flex fares with maximum flexibility, you have a range of options to choose from.

There are four separate fare categories in economy class: Promo, Saver, Semi-Flex and Flex and two fare categories in the business class: Saver and Flex. These fare categories are available across our entire network - both Domestic and International and each offers a different level of flexibility and benefits.

The Promo fare types are available occasionally and will typically offer the cheapest rate. The low price tag comes with several restrictions, such as travel date change not permitted and ticket is non-refundable. Once purchased you cannot cancel or change it - use it or lose it.

Economy Saver fare are the next cheapest and offer a little more flexibility than a Promotion ticket. Saver fares incur fees for changes to the flights or in order to receive a refund if you need to cancel. Economy Saver tickets are partially refundable.

Economy Semi-Flex fare types are not fully flexible, but you can request changes or a refund for a fee - you can change and cancel for a fee. These fare types offers flexibility for flight changes with reduced change fees. Economy Semi-Flex tickets are partially refundable.

The Economy Flex fare option offers maximum flexibility. These fares allow unlimited free flight changes and are fully refundable.

Business Saver fare are not fully flexible. Saver fares incur fees for changes to the flights or in order to receive a refund if you need to cancel. Business Saver Flex tickets are partially refundable. Business Saver fare type is not offered in our Domestic market.

The Business Flex fare option offers maximum flexibility and comes with premium products and services. These fares allow unlimited free flight changes and are fully refundable.

Take note that the Business Saver fare type is only offered in our International network.

Baggage allowances for hand luggage are as follow:

Economy Class - One (1) cabin bag (1pc) not exceeding 7kgs (15lbs), the total measurement of which must not exceed 50 x 30 x 20 cm = 100cm (40 inches)

Business Class - Two (2) cabin bags (2pcs) not exceeding 14kgs (30lbs), the sum total of three dimensions of both pieces must not exceed 50 x 30 x 20 cm = 100cm (40inches)

NB: These apply across our entire network - both Domestic and International

Passengers are encouraged to ensure that valuables & medications are taken as hand carry under the carry-on baggage allowance.

To make your journey as smooth as possible, we recommend that you check your baggage allowance before you arrive at the airport.  If your luggage weight exceeds your ticket allowance, excess fees will be charged at applicable rates.

There are certain items which you must not include in your baggage:

  • Items prohibited by the law or government policies of any state to be flown from or to;
  • Items which are likely to endanger the aircraft or persons or property on board the aircraft and are generally considered by Air Niugini to be unsuitable for carriage because they are dangerous or unsafe or by reason of their weight, size, shape or character;
  • Perishable or fragile items which include and are not limited to cash, precious metals, jewelry, laptop, camera, mobile phone, I-pad or any other electronic device of value, negotiable papers, business documents or samples, securities or other valuables. Except as provided for under the relevant provisions in 4 and 5, Air Niugini will not be liable for the loss, damage to or delay in the delivery of any fragile or valuable Item/s that are packed as checked baggage whether with or without the knowledge of the airline

Prepaid Excess Baggage:

Air Niugini has availed prepaid baggage to the traveling public for those who think their baggage will exceed the allowable checked baggage allowance. Prepaid baggage is purchased in blocks of five kilograms (5kgs) with a minimum of five kilograms (5kgs) and a maximum of forty-five (45kgs) per passenger. Prepaid baggage is available on Air Niugini’s entire network and will be governed by the following:

  • It's available only on Air Niugini operated flights
  • Must be purchased at least three hours (3hrs) before departure at the nearest sales office or online.
  • Pre-paid baggage will not be purchased at check-in; only Excess Baggage is applicable at check-in.
  • No single baggage item must exceed 32kgs.
  • Prepaid baggage is non-refundable and deemed used when a flight departs and corresponding flight coupon status is closed or flown.
  • Prepaid baggage is non-transferable.
  • If there are residual, no refund will be made. NB: Passengers must correctly estimate the total weight and must pay the correct amount as once paid, no refund will be allowed.

Points are the base units of measurement for the Air Niugini Destinations Loyalty Program.

How you earn points:

  • Members must always quote their own membership number or Family members’ membership numbers at the time of booking so that members can automatically earn PX Frequent Flyer Points every time members fly. Points will not be issued if members fail to action this.
  • All Members shall have their own personal Destinations account to which the points they earn will be credited.
  • Unless otherwise specified one Destinations Loyalty Point will be awarded for every kina spent on valid Air Niugini flights and/or with Destinations Program Partners, exclusive of taxes, fees and surcharges.
  • Flights booked overseas in a foreign currency will be converted to PGK at an exchange rate determined by Air Niugini before points are awarded.
  • Points may not be exchanged for cash or vouchers unless otherwise stated by Air Niugini.
  • Members are required to state their Destinations membership number at the time of reservation and present their signed Destinations membership card when they use the services of Air Niugini or any Destinations Program Partner, to ensure that the Destinations points they earn are credited to their account.
  • If the number of Destinations points is incorrect, members should inform the Destinations customer service team immediately.
  • Provided the Air Niugini Destinations member has provided the necessary information at the time of ticketing/time of check-in, points will be credited at the end of each month.
  • Points will not be awarded in relation to any products or services that are cancelled, refunded or returned. Air Niugini may cancel or deduct any points that have been awarded in relation to cancelled, refunded or returned products or services.
  • Points cannot be transferred between Air Niugini’s Loyalty Program and any other loyalty program including but not limited to Qantas Frequent Flyer.
  • Points cannot be earned on industry discounts,agency discounts, free or award tickets, infant fares,contra tickets, compensation tickets/make-goods and other special discount tickets as specified by Air Niugini,unless otherwise stated by Air Niugini.
  • Points are not awarded for chartered flights.

Travel plans do change and should you decide to amend your existing booking anytime, a change fee applies.

A change fee is a charge against a traveler who had previously committed a reservation or purchase and then decides to alter some aspect of it.

This fee applies when requesting for ticket reissue or/and re validation.

A cancellation fee is the service charge made by reason of failure of a passenger to use reserved accommodation without having cancelled such accommodation prior to the latest appropriate time for cancellation specified by the carrier.

This fee applies when cancelling your reservation and requesting for refunds.

Domestic: Regardless of the fare type, a refund handling fee of PGK 110 applies when requesting for refund.

International: Depending on the country of origin and regardless of the fare type, a refund handling fee applies when requesting for refund - see table below.

A No-show is when a passenger who had a reservation on a flight but failed to use the reservation for reasons other than misconnect. A no-show fee is the charge made by reason of the failure of a passenger to use reserved accommodation.

Domestic:
A no-show fee of PGK 165 shall be collected for all no-showed passengers of Flex branded Fares/Tickets on Economy and Business class fares.

No-show fee on all other fare types remains at PGK 220 applies when departure date has lapsed and you are requesting for refund or when making flight changes.

Priority Check-in is restricted to Executive Club Members (ECM) only.

Access to Air Niugini Paradise Lounge is permitted in the following circumstances for;

  • Air Niugini Executive Club Members when travelling on Air Niugini services only.
  • Air Niugini Business Class customers when travelling on Air Niugini services.
  • Qantas members of Chairman’s Lounge, Platinum & Gold Frequent Flyers, and Qantas Club members when travelling on QF codeshare services – Jacksons International Lounge only.
  • Qantas Business class passengers when travelling on QF codeshare services – Jacksons International Lounge only

Guests:

  • One (1) guest per member is permitted to access the lounge upon presentation of a Guest pass at the all Domestic Paradise lounge counters including Jacksons International Paradise Lounge. Please note that guests are not permitted to our Partner lounges overseas. The guest pass is valid for a single entry. The guest must always be accompanied by the member. Guests will not be permitted without a guest pass.
  • Extra guests or Non-Members will be charged PGK 150.00 per person.
  • Access is not allowed for Executive club members travelling on non-Air Niugini services, including their guests.
  • Access is not allowed for Qantas members travelling on non-QF codeshare services – Jacksons International Lounge only.

To avoid inconvenience, we ask that these access policies be observed.

Reminder:

There is a fail to board policy which states that a ticket shall be forfeited in the event of a fail to board. Fail to board is when a passenger already checks in online or at the check-in counter and has a boarding pass, but does not board the flight for some reason.

Effective from 29th of June 2020, any passenger that checks in online or at the check in counter and fails to board the flight shall have his/her ticket forfeited and that applies to all passengers with Economy or Business class tickets.

You are encouraged to proceed to the Departure Lounge once check in formalities are completed to be aware of flight boarding announcements.
